In order to check terrorism, espionage and other global security related problems in the country, the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), recently warned hoteliers and guest house operators to desist from violating the laws governing foreigners’ lodgement in their facilities.

According to Ceoafrica, the state Comptroller, Ajibola Bayeroju, gave the warning during an interactive session with members of the Nigeria Hoteliers Association in the state held at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta.

He noted that the NIS was duly empowered, as part of its statutory duty, to investigate, arrest, detain, prosecute and repatriate where necessary any foreigner who contravenes existing immigration laws.

The comptroller expressed dismay at the failure of hotels and guest houses in the state to file “expatriate quota daily returns and accurate documentation of guests manifest to the security of this country.”

According to him, only two out of 400 hotels and guest houses the immigration has on record as being established in the state are complying with the provision of the law.

He said owners of hotels should demand for a copy of passport data page and a copy of all endorsed pages from any foreigner who intends to stay for more than 24-hours.
