APC Governorship Candidate in Anambra State, Sen. Chris Ngige

Tribunal Orders INEC To Grant Ngige Access to Electoral Materials

NIGERIA- Aftermath of the November 2013 governorship election in Anambra State, the election tribunal in the state has ordered Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Sen. Chris Ngige, access to all documents used for the conduct of the election for inspection and photocopying.

In a statement given by the Chairman of the Tribunal, J.K Kaigama, yesterday in Awka, Sen. Ngige should be granted access to voters’ registers, result sheets, Form EC 17-Oath of Neutrality by INEC staff, used and unused ballot papers.

Others include list of all ad-hoc and permanent staff used for the elections, staff payment vouchers for the settlement of allowances of the ad-hoc staff would also be inspected by the candidate.

The judge said Mr. Ngige should be allowed to undertake the exercise urgently to enable him move expeditiously on the matter.

It would be recalled that at the end of the election, INEC declared Willie Obiano (APGA) winner of the election with 180,178 votes to beat Tony Nwoye of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who polled 97,700; while Ngige came third with 95,963. The Labour Party candidate, Ifeanyi Ubah, came fourth with 37, 495 votes.

Last Tuesday, Sen. Ngige filed the petition requesting the Tribunal to allow him inspect materials used for the election.
