Over the police maiden security summit programme which started late on Thursday, that made former President Olusegun Obasajo scold them, the police have spoken on the reason behind the lateness.
According to Ceoafrica, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in charge of Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos State, Mr Benjamin Hundeyin, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), yesterday explained that the programme started late due to some exigencies associated with the job.
This was even as he complained about reports in most of the national dailies that the former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who was the special guest of honour, stormed out of the police event after waiting for the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to arrive and for the event to start.
It was gathered that Idris arrived after Obasanjo left to attend another event in Ogun State. According to Idris, he wasn’t aware that Obasanjo was invited to the police training programme.
Hundeyin said: “In as much as it is a statement of fact that there was delay in the taking-off of the First Special Training and Capacity Development Seminar held at the Federal Palace Hotel, on March 2, 2017, due to exigencies of the policing job, the truth must not be skewed to suit personal or pre-determined stances.
“The special guest of honour, former president Olusegun Obasanjo in his usual fatherly manner and once being a uniformed personnel himself, came into the hall and still went ahead to deliver his remarks as earlier scheduled.
He would have shelved his remarks were he truly angry as insinuated. “In fact, the former president took his time to pose for pictures with dignitaries, seminar participants and other people individually, a clear sign he did not ‘storm’ out of the event as alleged.
What was misconstrued as a swipe against the force was nothing but Baba’s usual jolly nature and world famous penchant for throwing banters”.
