In view of the leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senators of the party will meet both the Ali Modu Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi led factions of the party any time soon, Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio disclosed yesterday.

According to Ceoafrica, Akpabio said that as critical stakeholders of the party, they would strive to persuade both camps on out of court settlement.

Rising from a closed-door meeting that lasted for about two hours, the PDP senators said before meeting Sheriff and Makarfi, they would meet with the party’s governors first and thereafter meet with the Board of Trustees (BoT) on the on-going crisis within the party.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Akpabio said the meeting was as a result of a letter Sheriff wrote the PDP Senate Caucus, seeking to meet them.

“We also said if it is possible that while the judicial processes are on, that as a caucus we should also pursue the alternative platform of having out of court settlement. If we succeed in doing so, this could even be a major way out instead of continuous processes in court judgment”, he said.

In a related development, the National Reconciliation Committee of the PDP, chaired by Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, had on Tuesday submitted its report to Sen. Sheriff, with a proposal that he should hold a convention not later than June 30, 2017.

“We hope that our party will have the opportunity to put behind us needless crisis which has engulfed the party since last year. Many of our leaders are impatient to see us come back together and once again represent the people of Nigeria”, he said.
