The mother of the one month old baby that was stolen in an alleged “car jacking” has been granted bail by the Durban magistrate’s court.

Sibongile Mbambo was arrested by the police after the baby was found.

She, who had told police that her daughter Siwaphiwe was in the back seat of her car when it was hijacked by two gunmen, has been charged with “defeating the ends of justice” for staging a hijack last week.

According to Ceoafrica, she was asked to pay R100, 000 ($76/£63) bail.

Although, kidnap charges were not included, but the mother is also accused of wasting police resources, and along with her co-accused Phumlani Mbokazi, will face fraud charges.
