The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has again appealed to the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to reinstate three of its members sacked, last October.

The state government sacked the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Akeem Ambali, the state chairman of NUT, Comrade Dare Ilekoya, Eniola Atiku and Nola Balogun and eight others while 16 were suspended, based on the recommendations of a panel set up to investigate their individual roles during the celebration of the World Teachers Day.

The state government in its magnanimity recalled 12 out of 16 dismissed and pardoned the 19 suspended workers, following interventions by stakeholders in the state.

While addressing newsmen on Friday, the National Chairman of the Union, Comrade Michael Olukoya, said its members believed in the “Ogun Project” and would not engage government in any litigation on the matter.

He expressed confidence that Governor Amosun will pardoned the remaining three in due course, saying the union believed in dialogue.

“We wish to appreciate His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Ogun State for his magnanimity in pardoning 31 out of the 34 teachers that were punished by the Ogun State Government for their unprofessional roles.

“Three of our members are yet to be pardoned by government despite series of appeals on their behalf.

“We believe that our appeals will be attended to by government. We believe that our teachers will be left off the hook. We believe that mediation is the best approach to resolve this problem. We plead with people that matters in the states to lend their voices in ensuring the reinstatement of these people,” he said.

The union also pleads with government to pay seven months outstanding check-off dues.
