The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has called for restrain over inflammatory comments that could disturb the relative peace that has returned to the ancient town.

The monarch made this call on Wednesday during a visit by the leaders of Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-cultural group.

The group visited the Oba to commiserate with him and the people of Ile-Ife on the recent crisis that led to killing of indigenes of the ancient town.

Oba Ogunwusi, welcomed the group and thanked them for thie concern and visit, while speaking on developments after the crisis.

The Oba said “I want to thank and appreciate the efforts of Afenifere and their concern over this issue, they are part of us, and I hold them in high esteem.

“What makes this incident most unfortunate is that the region remains practically peaceful among many cities of the world, where the adherents of the two leading religions cohabit without friction.”

While commending the group for their concern over the unfortunate incident, he also appealed to them to be conscious of any comment that could aggravate the present situation in the town.

He also warned Ile-ife people against politicising the issue, saying Nigeria is a place for all irrespective of tribe or language.

He said there are thousands of Yoruba people in the North, likewise many Northerners in the South West, and other parts of the south, which he said is the reason for peaceful co-existence.
