ZIMBABWE-President Mugabe yesterday officially commissioned the Sino Zim Cotton Holdings plant in Harare at a ceremony that was attended by Vice President Joice Mujuru, several ministers and other senior Government officials.

CEOAFRICA.com gathered that President Mugabe first toured the ginnery and spinning divisions before unveiling the plaque at the company's plant in Waterfalls.

According to sources, the company was established in May 2010 as a joint venture company between Zimbabwe and China with state-of-the-art equipment of 25 000 metric tonnes of cotton.

The spinning division also promotes value addition through production of high quality yarn for both domestic and international markets in Africa, Asia and Europe.

Sino Zim is a complete participator in the cotton value chain, being involved in farmer education, inputs supply, purchasing, processing and export of the product.

Since its inception in 2009, the company has made great strides in penetrating the once monopolised market and established an ever growing niche since then.
