Mr Hashim Jibrin, member, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has called for a quick passage of the Nasarawa Geographic Information Service(NAGIS) bill into law, to check illegal structures.

Jibrin, Chairman of the House Committee on Lands and Survey, who represents Karu/Gitata constituency, made the call on Wednesday in Lafia, while presenting a report on a bill for a law to establish NAGIS.

He said that NAGIS, if established, would not only check illegal structures, but would modernise land tenure system that would ease development.

“NAGIS will ease town planning and the resettlement of natives whose lands have been acquired.

“It will also ensure adequate compensation for such persons and give them a sense of belonging,” he said.

He said that the committee, to which the bill was referred, by the lawmakers, had found its passage “very necessary” to accelerate the granting of permissions for development of structures.
