The State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) in Plateau says it will take stringent measures on teachers on study leave without due approval.

The Chairman of the board, Prof. Mathew Sule, made this known at the inauguration of renovated classrooms in Bokkos Local Government, Jos on Friday.

He expressed displeasure that many teachers had left their stations to further their studies without approval leaving the children stranded in classes.

He said that disciplinary measures would be taken against the erring teachers to serve as a deterrent to others.

“It is sad that in spite of efforts toward improving education in Plateau, some teachers have left their duty posts to further their studies without the required approval by the board.

“No head teacher has the authority to grant approval to any teacher for studies.

“It has to be approved by the board. We have had meetings with the leadership of Association of Head teachers in Plateau to ensure compliance.

“We are not against teachers improving on their knowledge but it should be premised on the requisite qualifications and guidelines by the board,” he said.
