Troops Rescue 1,623 Boko Haram Captives in Jarawa

Nigerian Army troops have rescued 1,623 residents in an operation to clear out Boko Haram terrorists from Jarawa community in Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.

This was revealed in a statement released by the Army spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman that troops of Three Battalion, 22 Brigade on Operation Lafiya Dole, had launched an offensive on a suspected terrorist location based on a tip-off.

The soldiers, who came under heavy fire at Jarawa village, fought back and then went on to clear the insurgents from nine other neighbouring settlements.

The statement read in part: “During the operation, the troops neutralised 21 Boko Haram terrorists, rescued 1,623 residents of Jarawa who were held captives by the terrorists.

“They also recovered three AK-47 rifles with registration numbers 565222414, 563729686 and UF 3646; a 36 Hand Grenade, 12 cutlasses and four motorcycles.

“The rescued persons have been escorted to Rann Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, while all the children were vaccinated.

“One significant aspect of this operation is that the unit, noted for its experience in battle, resilience and bravery did not record any casualty”.
