Anka Local Government of Zamfara State, on Tuesday, gave 50kg of groundnut to each of 110 women for processing into groundnut oil to boost their businesses.

The bags of groundnut were presented to the beneficiaries in Anka by the council Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Anka.

Anka said that the council carefully selected 10 women from each of the 11 wards in the local government area to make up the figure.

The chairman said that the gesture was part of the council’s efforts to improve the wellbeing of the people, particularly women and youths.

He gave the assurance that the council would introduce more programmes to boost the economy of the area.

Anka urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the commodity.

He also advised parents to enrol their male and female children in schools to empower them with education.

A beneficiary, Hajiya Hauwa Anka, who responded on behalf of all the beneficiaries, thanked the council for the support.

She said that the gesture would improve their businesses and support their families.

She said that, in the past, many of them bought small quantities of groundnut for processing into oil, adding the 50kg of groundnut for each of them would enlarge their businesses.
