NIGERIA (Rivers) - Contrary to a reported by some media that Rivers State Deputy Governor’s office was attacked with explosives early hours of Tuesday, Police command in the state has debunked as false the information, adding that it was just a false alarm aimed at painting the state with bad image.

In a telephone chat with CEOAFRICA.com, Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Mohammed said there is no cause for alarm while urging the people to go about their daily activities without fear.

“ The police wish to categorically debunk as false an information that the office of Rivers State Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru was attacked with explosives earlier today.

“His office is very close to the Police Headquarters in the state and it would be very difficult for an incident of that magnitude to occur without us knowing about it,” he said.

The Police Spokesperson however adviced that journalists should always verify the authenticity of any information they receive before making it available to the public, saying news of such could enhance instability in the society.

He then promised the people of Rivers State that Police will always ensure their safety of lives and properties.

Earlier, some journals reported that explosion occurred near the deputy governor, Tele Ikuru’s office around 3.am on Tuesday.
