NIGERIA (Ogun) – Two pipeline vandals were sentenced to five years imprisonment each by a Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital yesterday.

Akintunji Abiodun (43) and Akingbe Akinwale (38) were charged to court on the counts of pipeline vandalism and illegal dealing in petroleum products.

The case was instituted by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ogun State Command.

While delivering the judgement, Justice Folashade Ogunbanjo, said the lead counsel for the prosecution, Bukola Akande, has proved her case beyond reasonable doubt that the accused actually committed the crime and were guilty of the charges brought against them.

The Judge also discharged two others accused in the case, Abdulsalam Kehinde and Samuel Segun.

After the delivery of judgement, NSCDC Spokesperson, Kareem Olanrewaju, said the judgement was encouraging as it was a manifestation of the corps commandant, Aboluwoye Akinwande’s war against vandalism in Ogun State.

“The Commandant has been working round the clock to ensure vandalism is reduced to the barest minimum,” Mr. Olanrewaju said.
