The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has said the directive by chairman of the party's national caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi that party members should use alternative platforms to contest elections is anti-PDP.
The Makarfi faction of the PDP had Tuesday, asked its members in states to look for alternative platforms in order to participate in pending local government elections on ground that the PDP is currently in dispute.
But in a statement Wednesday, by the party's acting spokesman, Bernard Mikko, Sheriff, a former governor of Borno State said party members with ambitions should ignore the directive and contest on PDP platform.
"The attention of the national chairman of the PDP, Sen. Ali modu Sheriff and the National Working Committee have been drawn to a press release by one Mr. Adeyeye on behalf of Sen. Makarfi and the court declared illegal caretaker committee that members desirous of contesting elections should look for alternative platforms.
"It is now clear that having failed to convince members to follow them to their proposed new party, Makarfi and his co-travellers have resorted to using every thing available to destroy our party.
"This new antic will also fail and we assure all our aspirants that the end to impunity and imposition of candidates is insight. We call on all loyal members to ignore this call and see them for what they are; destroyers of our much cherished party.
"We equally call on all members who are desirous of contesting elections to use our party; the PDP and be rest assured of level playing field guaranteed by internal party democracy," the statement said.
