Ekiti State Government sponsored over 11,000 public primary and junior secondary school teachers on various training programmes during the 2012/2013 academic session. The State Deputy Governor, Professor Modupe Adelabu made this known while speaking at a forum in Ado Ekiti. Professor Adelabu said that the state government also expended about N1,448 billion as counterpart fund in 2011 and 2012 for the construction of new classrooms, renovation of dilapidated classrooms, repairs of schools affected by rainstorm, construction of perimeter fencing for schools as well as production of furniture for both teachers and pupils in the public schools.
According to her, the three mega Early-Child-Care Centres in the state were established from the fund.
The Deputy Governor added that the state government procured and distributed exercise books, chalks, class registers, dusters, teaching aids to the 836 public primary and 183 junior secondary schools at a cost of N106m to promote academic excellence in the schools.
She said the open day programme in public primary schools which was recently re-introduced by the Board has improved the teaching and learning processes tremendously, noting that it has enabled parents and guardians to follow the progress of their children and wards.
