Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has launched the rapid response initiative of President Muhammadu Buhari with a view to render free medical services to the indigent people at the grass root with various health conditions.
Speaking during the flag off of the programme at the AKTH healthcare centre in Kumbotso, Kano on Tuesday, the Chief Medical Director AKTH, Professor Aminu Zakari Mohammed said over 1500 surgical cases are being targeted for Kano state.
He said 1000 patients with issues of hynea will be operated upon under the free healthcare initiative of the president besides cases of cataracts, fibroids, cleft-lip and cleft-palates which were given 100 and 70 slots respectively.
The CMD said free screening for 3 common cancer and hepatitis would also be conducted and appropriate medication be given to the patients.
He urged the residents to avail themselves for the programme in order to know their health status and to receive treatment accordingly.
Alh. Shafiu Mohammed who represented the Chairman of Kumbotso local government at the Flag-off ceremony commended President Mohammadu Buhari over the initiative describing it as rare opportunity meant to salvage the poor masses from silent diseases.
"In fact, we are really happy about this initiative of the president because there are people in our localities who have a lot of health problems especially in this silent diseases like diabetics, most of them are doing their work normally but didn't know they have these diseases. This initiative has given us the chance to do the test and get treated accordingly" he said.
He expressed gratitude to the president and prayed for his quick recovery and safe return to the country.
