ST. VINCENT – Heavy rain has claimed the life of over eight people, while dozens were rendered homeless in the Caribbean islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines yesterday.

The heavy rain has also caused destruction in the neighbouring St. Lucia, while Dominican Republic also suffered the same feat.

Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves has cut short his holidays and was returning from London.

The region was expected to remain on rain alert, according to meteorological services.

Mr Gonsalves said he couldn't remember such heavy rain at Christmas.
