All roads will lead to multi purpose hall of the College of Medicine, Idi Araba, Lagos, southwest Nigeria on Saturday as 400 people will benefit from this year’s Zakat Distribution Ceremony (ZDC) for Lagos.

According to the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer (ED/CEO) of the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, Imam Abdullah Shuaib, over N63 million in cash and materials will be distributed at the event. The event will be presided over by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar. Before the ZDC, the Sultan would have commissioned the Zakat House at Itire Road.

Imam Shuaib stated that although the number of beneficiaries this year was lesser than that of last year, the worth of distribution is more than what was distributed last year.

“Zakat primary aim is to take from the rich and empower the poor, hence we believe in quality rather than quantity. What we are giving out are meant to empower the beneficiaries, make them independence so that they will not only be self employed but will later become employers of labour,” Abdullah, who spoke with journalists at a media parley in Lagos, southwest Nigeria on Tuesday, said.

According to him, the Zakat train is moving round the nooks and crannies of the country and annually the worth of what is distributed continues to increase. “For this year, over N84 million has been distributed in cash and materials at the various ZDCs,” he explained.
