NIGERIA (Plateau)- Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State has said that accountants, budget officers and auditors who are not computer literates within the next three months, shall be shown the way out of the state’s Public service.

He said this on Wednesday in Jos at a sensitization workshop on International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) for top policy makers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the State.

The governor said:  “a threat to this new accounting system which I find disturbing is that most of our technical staff; accountants, budget officers and auditors are not computer literate.

“Since we are determined to succeed, I hereby direct that all these technical persons be given at least three months to be computer literate, failing which appropriate actions will be taken against them.”

Earlier in an opening remark, the Commissioner of Finance, Davou Mang, urged accounting officers to be prudent in their public dealings.

“As policy makers, we are accountable to the public.

“As policy makers, you are monitors and supervisors of your subordinates.

“If you do not know the reporting formats or systems in use, how then can you supervise your subordinates effectively?”, he concluded.
