NIGERIA (Lagos) –Members of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Lagos State Area Unit, has joined millions of Nigerians to shower encomium on President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for signing the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act into law.

The law does not only criminalizes same-sex marriage but also makes public displays of affection and even socializing in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and inter-sex community illegal.

In a statement signed by its President, Kaamil Kalejaye, the group applauded President Jonathan for standing his ground despite pressure to reject the anti-gay bill by some international organizations and foreign countries.

“The act of same sex partnership is not just morally wrong but barbaric and inimical to the African culture.

“None of the two dominant religions of the world support this terrible act. Marriage is a sacred contract between a man and a woman that cannot be redefined. We believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman because it is a cornerstone of family life and the only institution within which to raise children.”

“Homosexuality is one of the most disgusting sins and greatest crimes. It is a vile perversion that goes against sound nature, and is one of the most corrupting and hideous sins, the punishment for homosexuality in Islam is death.

The group however urged President Jonathan to use the same drive used in signing the bill into law to tackle all other issues affecting the country and allow development in all facets of the economy.
