The only thing that can save Nigeria and guarantee its future indivisible entity is to reverse back to true Federal system of government, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III has urged President Good luck Jonathan and members of the National Assembly.

Similarly, the Alaafin wants constitutional roles for traditional rulers to be guaranteed in order for the royal fathers to contribute their quota meaningfully towards making Nigeria great as envisaged by its founding fathers.

Oba Adeyemi, to this end, kicked against those working against giving roles to the royal fathers especially in decision making and advisory roles, saying the development amounts to postponing the evil day for the nation's corporate and peaceful co-existence.

The Alaafin spoke in response to questions by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo state council who were led by the Chairman of the Union, Comrade 'Gbenga Opadotun to the ancient palace to observe iftar (Ramadan break) with his imperial majesty.

Oba Adeyemi said, "There is no where anywhere in the world where an important and vital segment of a society would be excluded from the administration and that administration will survive. We are just wasting our time.

"The Clifford constitution of 1922 tried to find a role for the traditional rulers in the legislative council. The British in their wisdom included the Obas although purely on advisory capacity, it worked. Remember that what we have today is federal system of government. The essence of federalism is that we are different people, different nation, customs, religion, administration, history, culture, language.

"When you have diversity of culture, diversity of religion, way of life, the best form of contribution would be federal system. If you don't take into cognisance all these and you are running away from essence and the social element of that diversity, you must formulate a policy that would go in line and unison to what people want.

"Remember also that USSR collapse, Zekoslovakia collapse, Yugoslavia collapse. There is no reason for that than the fact that they were holding them together at that time by force.

"In Yorubaland, we are the first to practice democracy, separation of power. An American, Townsend came to Africa and he said, "that the highest essence about the best form of government among the Whites lies in the separation of power to prevent the abuse of power".

"The West African people; the Yorubas have not only studied it but have put it into practice long before the Americans and before the Baron started using it in Great Britain.

"Commenting on the same issue, late Professor Biobaku said "the Yorubas safeguard was best displayed in Oyo." We are the first to discover among African race that separation of power, devolution of power and duty are essential element that can save the humanity.

"So, if the important segment of the society or people are not involved, they are just wasting their time," especially in the on-going constitution by both arms of the National Assembly, Alaafin maintained.
