Health care services  were paralyzed on Wednesday following the warning strike embarked upon by members of all the five unions under the Joint Health Workers Sector. The five unions comprised Medical and Health Workers' Union, Nurses and Midwife Association, Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals, Senior Staff of All Teaching Hospitals and Allied Health Institution and Non Academic Staff Union (NASU)commenced a three day nationwide warning strike .

The aggrieved workers were protesting among others the non implementation of the court ruling of July 2013 by the federal government , non payment of the issues of Consolidation Salary Scale Level 10, the refusal to implement the court judgment on consultancy status to other health care professionals other than medical practitioners, non payment of special allowances which was agreed upon since January 2010.

The National President, Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professional, Dr Felix Faniran said it was very disturbing that the federal government had proved to be highly irresponsible and insensitive to the welfare of health workers.

He described the nationwide warning strike as inevitable. In most of the hospitals visited yesterday especially the University College Hospital(UCH), and State Hospitals activities  were  grounded as health workers with exception of medical doctors, shunned their duty posts.

The situation was the same at community health centres at Iyana offa, Egbeda and Fiditi. It was gathered that, the health workers shunned their duty posts in line with the directive by the national body of the union. However, medical doctors were seen in all the hospitals visited especially at the UCH and Adeoyo State Hospital carrying out skeletal services.
