Lagos Lawmaker Slams Bode George For Calling Assembly Bola Tinubu’s Rubber Stamp

The Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Information,Strategy, Security and Publicity, Honourable Segun Olulade, Epe 2, has condemned the former Vice Chairman, southwest of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George over his comment that Lagos Lawmakers are mere rubber stamp and answerable only to the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his reaction to the statement, Olulade said it is laughable that in spite of Bode George’s many anomalies as a corrupt public servant which has earned him battered image ove time, George still romances his die-hard habit of ‘uttering unguided and un-statesman-like statements’ all in the name of trying to paint PDP clean before the public.

“I don’t know any House of Assembly in Nigeria that is as dynamic as the Lagos State House of Assembly, and the records are there for anyone to verify. I don’t think George understands that Legislative House is not a fighting House; rather, the House is saddled with the responsibilities of enacting laws guiding the state and to check the executive arms only when it becomes necessary”, Olulade said.

He continues, “Lagos Assembly is not House of commotion, so we don’t sit to issue threats and fight the executive before we can carry out our legislative tasks.  Lagosians are blessed with one of the best Governors anyone can think of in Nigeria today, hence, we carry out our tasks in checking the executive maturely and amicably, not by shouting, issuing threats and causing commotions as expected by Bode George.

“I challenge George to tell us any meaningful progress ever made by the state that has a House of Assembly where lawmakers are breaking mace, fighting and causing commotions in governance. We do our work diligently, ensures viable policies are implemented and achieve results while discharging such, which is what the Legislative arm of government is all about”.

Olulade said it is unthinkable to assume that 40 lawmakers will not have divergence views in spite of the fact that we all come from the same party. The Lagos Assembly spokesperson said Chief Bode George is free, like any other Lagosian, to avail himself with the clarity of thoughts by visiting Lagos Assembly’s public session to help himself have insight into how genuine lawmaking business is conducted, rather than staying behind the fence and throwing careless, unverifiable and cheap remarks about the Lagos House of Assembly.

“Unlike the secretive party which Bode George represents, the APC is open and leadership in the party, including those serving in executive and legislative capacities, is open to people they represent. Bode George’s unguided statement is insulting the integrity of Lagosians who have elected their own representatives into the House of Assembly”, he concluded.
