Resident Electoral Commissioners: Senate to screen Buhari’s nominees

The nine Resident Electoral Commissioner nominees sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari have been referred to the Senate Committee on INEC.

The referral followed a motion to that effect by the Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan stating that the nominees be considered as requested by the executive.

“That the Senate do consider the request of Mr. President for the confirmation of the nomination of following persons for appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in accordance with Sections 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended,” he said.

The nominees are:

Elder Monday Udoh Tom — Akwa Ibom

Baba Abba Yusuf — Borno State

Mr. Eric Olawale — Osun state

Dr. Uthman Abdulrasheed Ajidagba — Kwara

Mr. Segun Agbaje — Ekiti

Dr. Cyril Omorogbe — Edo

Yahaya Bello — Nasarawa

Dr. Emmanuel Alex Hart — Rivers

Mohammed Magaji Ibrahim — Gombe

Reacting, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki pointed that it was usual for nominees to pass through screening.

Subsequently, the names referred to the Committee on INEC which is expected to report back in two weeks.
