The Oyo State youth leader of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Oyo state chapter,  Asiwaju Adekola Adeoye has charged youths in the country to participate in politics in order to get good governance from the government.

Adekola made this statement while featuring as a guest on Community Today, an online TV programme of CEOAfrica. He called on the youths to be actively involved in the system to salvage their future and the future of the nation since they are the future leaders.

The PDP youth leader who discussed about Youth participation in politics stated that the need for youths to participate in politics could not be over emphasized, and that the actions of legends in the past such as Late Bola Ige, Obafemi Awolowo and Professor Wole Soyinka who are all men of reputation  participated in politics and are known for it worldwide . He narrated how the need for good governance made him to join politics.

Asiwaju further said that the position of his party, the PDP has always been to enlighten and educate the youths on the reasons why they need to join politics. He therefore admonished all youths to be committed in ensuring that Nigeria remains one entity.

On the issue of Not Too Young To Run, the PDP youth leader stated that different programmes and seminars have been organised in Oyo state to sensitize the youths on this issue. Mr. Asiwaju further noted that the youth wing of his party has also decided to come up with a programme on the 15th of February at jogor center tagged Oyo State PDP youth summit which is aimed at sensitizing the youths on the need for them to join politics. According to Mr. Asiwaju, the programme is open to every youth who desire so much change in the governance of the nation and will feature different guests and youth leaders of the party from all the South West states.

Obasanjo letter bomb to Buhari

Responding to the question on the open letter written by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to President Muhammadu Buhari, the PDP youth leader asked the former President to be humble enough to first apologise to Nigerians because he misled them by urging so many of them to vote out PDP in 2015.

“Baba Obasanjo must first of all apologise to Nigerians because if you could remember in 2013 Obasanjo wrote a letter to the former President, His Excellency Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and after the letter people started to think that Jonathan is not a good man anymore. But now they know better”, he added

Also speaking to the PDP youth chairman of Ondo chapter, Prince Abayomi, stated that PDP lost 2015 elections because of the lies peddled by APC to hoodwink Nigerians into voting for them.

Prince Abayomi went further to posit that Nigerians were deceived by the catchy and attractive promises of the APC during the campaigns believing that if all they had said happens, Nigeria will become United States of America in just one night.

“We lost the 2015 elections not just because of people’s perception of the party. We lost because of the impression created by people like Baba Obasanjo then. We lost because of the lies peddled by APC. We lost because the change mantra was though very idealistic but was so catchy that should this happen in Nigeria, Nigeria becomes America in one day. So it was so easy for you to bring a packaging company in America to frame the mindset of an average Nigerian”.

Fulani herdsmen crisis

While responding to question on how PDP would have handled the menace of Fulani herdsmen, Prince Abayomi said there were clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers when PDP was in power but such clashes were not felt because of the mechanisms put in place by the PDP controlled government. The Ondo state PDP youth leader made it clear that the government has failed to respond because there is an issue of ethnic interest. He went further to fault the statement of the Minister of Defence that Fulani herdsmen carried out their dastard act because their routes were blocked.

There were Fulani herdsmen when PDP was in power. There were herdsmen/farmers clashes when PDP was in power. There are mechanisms on ground to handle this issue. Let us not deceive ourselves, the major problem we have now is ethnic interest either you like or not. How would a Minister of Defence to say that these people that are killing innocent people are killing because they are blocking their routes”, these were his words.
