The Oyo State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Chief Isaac Adisa Ishola has described environmental cleanliness as a joint responsibility that requires the efforts of both individuals and the government.

The Commissioner made this known today in Ibadan while featuring as a guest on "Community Today" an onlineTV program on CEOAfrica, he noted that the emphasis of the present government in Oyo State is to ensure that the state is safe and clean for everyone

He stated that the vision of Oyo state government is to ensure that nothing is wasted because what Nigerians regards as wastes can be converted to wealth.

Chief Adisa explained that, the Oyo state government is presently practicing the four components of environment which are: sanitation, pollution and afforestation and deforestation where holistic view of waste management is being carried out right from the point of generation to storage, collection and disposal.

The Hon Commissioner outlined the benefits of proper management of waste which the state government has embarked on to include fertilizer manufacturing, electricity generation, job creation, revenue generation to the state and the attraction of more investors to the state.

 He said that, Oyo state government has created a public private partnership (PPP), in the area of waste management and that is why the state government is partnering with West Africa Energy, WAE, for efficiency in proper waste management across the state.

Waste to Wealth

The commissioner while responding to a question on how the government intends to ensure the conversion of waste into wealth stated that ‘’the government has acquired over twenty-four thousand hectares of land that will be used for the processing of collected wastes from dump sites. He went further to say that the state government has already received about three proposal letters to convert the collected wastes to energy”, he said.

Adisa enjoined the masses to see the cleanliness of their environment as a collaborative effort between the government and the citizens which must be carried out diligently as a dirty environment attracts all types of diseases.
