Human rights activist and the President/Convener of Nigeria Voters Assembly (VOTAS), Comrade Mashood Erubami has thrown himself into the murky waters of politics and has been adopted by his Ogungbade, Ibadan residential zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Egbeda Local Government area of Oyo State as candidate for the House of Representatives in the forthcoming election.
At the official presentation of Erubami at a crowded ceremony held at the local government (Egbeda) an outskirts of Ibadan, on Sunday, the zonal Chairman, Oyekola Azeez, on behalf of party members, said that the choice of Erubami was a joint agreement reached by all party members in the zone, including members of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) and the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP).
He described Erubami as a committed Nigerian who had all in his life been fighting for the less privileged people and good governance and later presented him to the Chairman, Ward 9 of the party, Joseph Olajide who in turn did same to the APC, Egbeda Local Government Chairman, Segun Oyediran. Oyediran told the gathering that the choice of presenting Erubami for the position was welcomed by the party, adding that all members should work hard to realize their dreams of winning elections, stressing that the presence of the activist in the House of Representatives will give hope to the less privileged in the society, as different bills that will better their lives will be sponsored by him.
Responding, Erubami explained that he decided to join the progressives in correcting the wrongs in the society and also uplift the living standards of the less privileged that are wallowing in abject poverty in the midst of plenty. He gave the assurance that if voted into office, he would not disappoint the electorate just as he called on members to ensure that he gets the party’s ticket to contest the election and eschew money politics which is presently the order of the day.
