Former Athletics Federation of Nigerian, AFN president, Evangelist Solomon Ogba was forced to take up the duty of coach and technical official for Nigerian athletes at the The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Indoor Champions, which ended in Birmingham, England yesterday.
There were no AFN technical officials and coaches on ground to provide guidance for Tobi Amusan, Lindsey Lindley who participated in the women’s 60m hurdles, Chidi Okezie, men’s 400m, and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, shot put men.
Amusan reached the final of the 60m hurdles running 8.05 seconds to place 7th in a race she was a favorite. Okezie and Enekwechi didn’t also fare well in their events. “There was no official from the AFN on ground to Shepherd the athletes.
There was a case of an athlete who did not have the proper documentation, the athlete was declared ineligible as there was no technical official to help iron the issues.’’
Ogba who was in Birmingham as a guest of the IAAF was forced to step in to help the athletes. “What happened here in Birmingham is just a picture of things to come at the Commonwealth Games,” the official said.
