Following Sunday’s Presidential Election in Mali, preliminary results indicate that Former Prime Minister Ibrahim Boubacar Keita is leading his fellow contestants, and may be declared winner before Wednesday night, CEOAFRICA.com gathered.

The election was adjudged credible by observers, although tension is rising as the announcement of results is very close.

According to sources, Colonel Moussa Sinko Coulibaly, who is the minister of territorial administration, confirmed the preliminary result while addressing journalists in Bamako."There is one candidate, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, who has a wide margin compared with the other candidates, if maintained, [it means] there will not be a need for a second round. The results represented a third of ballots cast from constituencies across the country,” he said.

However, some of the candidates have started expressing their displeasure regarding the preliminary result.

According to Amadou Koita, spokesman for ex-Finance Minister Soumaila Cisse, who Coulibaly said was currently in second place; the announcement is "scandalous", as he went further to question why the minister refused to give figures to back up his statement.
