NIGERIA (Jigawa)-The Education Secretary, Hadejia Local Education Authority in Jigawa State, Alhaji Lawan Abubakar, has disclosed that 89,073 children were registered in the 2014 school enrolment exercise in the area.
He said this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Hadejia on Friday.
Abubakar said that the figure represented about a 35 per cent increase compared to the 59, 382 pupils enrolled in 2013.
He said the feat was achieved due to the school development projects and establishment of additional schools aimed at expanding the scope of school enrolment.
He said the authority through the Universal Basic Education Board, was constructing about 50 classrooms in the area.
“We are executing three-storey building comprising 18 classrooms each at Dubunti, Agumau and Garko primary schools,” he said.
The secretary said that the State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB had also provided 300 cartons of instructional materials and 740 sets of classroom furniture for distribution to schools in the area.
According to him, the authority has also sponsored teachers to various training programmes to expose them to modern teaching techniques and encourage academic excellence.
He urged parents to send their wards to school to achieve the goal of quality education for all children.
