Ban Ki-moon Advocated Support for Burundi, as International Community Donates U.S. $2 Billion for Growth

From Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi, CEOAFRICA.com reports that international community has promised to donate a sum of $2 billion in supporting numerous developmental projects in the country.

In his message to the first Sectoral Conference held in Bujumbura, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on international community to help Burundi in its path towards peace and sustainable development.

The message reads, “Today, more than ever, Burundi needs support. The country has already progressed along the long and difficult path towards peace and sustainable development. Now all stakeholders must come together to implement the recommendations of the Geneva Conference.”

Mr. Ban Ki-moon’s message was delivered by his Special Representative for Burundi, Parfait Onanga-Anvanga.

The UN Secretary-General also called on inclusive participation from all sectors of society, stressing this is essential to fight poverty and promote growth.
