Nigeria ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan, has said that the country has lost its respect in the African continent as things have gone so bad under President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
The former president said this while speaking at the inauguration of the first bridge built by Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State in Ado Ekiti on Friday, May 25, 2018.
He decried to horrid state of insecurity in the country as well as the collapse of the naira against the dollar.
While speaking at the event, Jonathan lamented on how the Ghanaian president recently used Nigeria in a negative form, saying that he was ashamed of the disrespect the nation was getting among other African countries.
“He (Ghanaian President) said Ghana is not like Nigeria where cattle roam the streets. At another occasion in the United Kingdom, he made scathing remarks about Nigeria’s currency. I feel ashamed as a former President that the president of a neighbouring country used Nigeria as negative examples.
“If a neighbouring African president will use Nigeria to make negative examples, then we as leaders must know certain things are wrong in the country. That means we as leaders must change the way we do things,” he said.
The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike who also spoke at the event declared that Nigeria is sliding into anarchy because of the poor governance style of the APC Federal Government.
Commissioning the newly constructed Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Friday in the presence of Jonathan, Fayose, Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, Gombe State Governor, Dr Ibrahim Dankwambo, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel and PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, the Rivers State Governor said that Nigerians should use their permanent voters cards to vote out the failed APC Federal Government.
Wike said: “Nigeria is sliding into anarchy. Nigerians were deceived by the change lies. Nigerians should show that they are tired of this fruitless change.”
The governor reiterated that the intelligence on the plot to assassinate him is genuine and valid. He said that the APC Federal Government has been involved in past plots to kill him.
He therefore urged the people of Ekiti to be vigilant ahead of the governorship election, saying that they would be intimidated by the security agencies.
Wike also charged the APC Federal Government to imitate Former President Goodluck Jonathan who showed that the unity of the country was paramount by conducting credible polls.
“Jonathan knows what democracy is all about. He never used his power to imprison the opposition. He never allowed anyone to shed blood for political gains. That is not the case today,” the governor said.
He wondered why the Ekiti State APC Governorship Candidate would be campaigning on the strength of a failed APC Federal Government, instead of his first term achievements.
The governor commended the Ekiti State Governor for his judicious management of meagre resources to deliver key projects.
He said the outgoing Ekiti State Governor has performed creditably because he believes in massive development in line with the PDP manifesto.
“We are happy to be part of PDP states commissioning key projects unlike the APC States where wheel barrows, hired tractors and bags of mangoes are commissioned “, he said.
He also praised Fayose by saying that he will continue to be useful to the PDP even after he completes his tenure of office.
In his remarks, Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose said that the PDP Governorship Candidate, Professor Eleka has a divine mandate to take over.
Fayose said that over the eight years that he spent in the office, he was central to the development of the infrastructure base of Ekiti State.
National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus warned the APC Federal Government against attempting to rig the Ekiti State Governorship election.
He stated that across the country, PDP State Governors are delivering key projects to improve the lives of the people.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo.
