The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai has opined that the Nigerian military has continues to play it's role in the development of the country.
The Army Chief made the assertion while speaking with CEOAfrica media team in Abuja on Friday 24th August ahead of the 63rd Annual Conference of Historical Society of Nigeria in collaboration with the department of History and War Studies , Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna which is schedule to hold from 7- 11th October 2018 .

He said, "The Nigerian Army have provided me an ample opportunity to further my education not just at the first degree level alone but also master's degree level and I used the period to go through the Nigerian military history and you can see the progressive pattern of the development of Nigeria viz-a-viz the contributions of the military.
"We have seen the implications of the misadventures of the military into governance. We have seen also by and large the march to democracy as been presented and nurtured by the military and you know history is a field that develops critical analysis, critical thinking. You don't just look at it as the simple historical narrative. Whatever you see, you must put it in the right context. Historical context is very important and you see that at any point you are faced with challenges you should be able to look at it critically and that critical thinking has helped me in putting forward various strategies that I implemented as the Chief of Army Staff", he said.
He further disclosed that the Nigerian Army has undergone several metamorphosis, having gone from just about 5 divisions to over 8 divisions.
He revealed that the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, established over 2 years ago was created to serve as tink-tank for the Army.
"As historians, you cannot have an institution of this magnitude (Nigerian Army) without having a tink-tank that will give you a comprehensive and detailed analysis of situations putting it in the right context, be it historical, be it political, be it economic, be it military. And this has made me to say we need a tink-tank, a centre that will help us put things in context and here lies the creation of an establishment of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre and it has played a very important role since its establishment just over two years ago. It has given the Nigerian Army right sense of history, right sense of progress and development within the Nigerian society," he stated.
