Lecturer at the department of History and Diplomatic Studies, University of Portharcourt and council member of the Historical Society of Nigeria (HSN), Dr Mfon Ekpootu has lauded the achievements of the HSN under the leadership of Prof. C.B.N Ogbogbo.
Dr Ekpootu in an interview with CEOAfrica media team at the Prof. Ogbogbo Inaugural lecture in Ibadan recently stated that the HSN has done a lot especially in bringing History back to schools.
"We have been doing a lot and Prof. Ogbogbo was able to put that across during his inaugural lecture and was able to tell the public just how far we have gone, even to the stage of writing historical books and taking it up to the federal level to see how we can bring back history to schools and we have succeeded in some parts. Like he said in his inaugural lecture, by September we will have history back in Secondary schools. So that is a great plus for the HSN under his leadership. So we are doing pretty much," she said.
Dr Ekpootu also expressed her delight at the success of the Inaugural lecture.
She said, "It was an amazing lecture, he was able to really put it well, what tradition is all about and how he has been able to defend that tradition rooted in history of course. So it was a really brilliant delivery and we of the HSN council members are really proud of him".
Dr Ekpootu does research in Gender and Social History, Feminist Economics, Labor History and African Sexualities.
