FOUR persons, including a woman, were on Saturday died in a lone accident which occurred at Motunde Village along Ibadan/Oyo Expressway.

The accident, it was gathered was as a result of a burst of rear tyre of the bus at about 11.40 am, that led to theĀ  Mazda bus with registration number XC 104 YYY, somersaulting and standing on its back, left five other occupants critically wounded, with about five others sustaining some bruises.

The vehicle, according to some commercial drivers that were seen at the scene, belonged to the Chairman of the Total, Ojoo, Ibadan branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, simply identified as Baba Iyabo.

Among the critically-injured was the driver, whose identity could not be ascertained. He had a deep cut on his head, and was just intermittently breathing until officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) arrived at 12.02 pm. with two vans of the Operation Burst also arriving the scene at 12.15 pm.

All the surviving victims were conveyed to the General Hospital, Oyo town for treatment, while the dead were deposited at the hospital's morgue.

But for luck, the tank of the bus, which was licking fuel, could have ignited fire and worsened the case of the victims. Sympathizers were on hand to place a big bowl under the upturned tank to collect the fuel, lest it continue to drip onto the vehicle.

Personal effects of the victims littered the ground as sympathizers stopped to fan and pour water on some that were still breathing lest they give up before help could come their way.

As at the time of filing this report, it could not be confirmed whether any of the critically-injured passed out or they survived at the hospital.
