The Senior Programme & Project Officer of the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN)- Dr. Babajide Ojo has affirmed that African languages are the heritage of the African people.
He made this known in an exclusive interview with CEOAfrica at the ongoing meeting with ACALAN’s working structures and member states on Tuesday in Lome, Togo.
“ACALAN is a specialized institution of the African Union. We are saddled with the responsibility of promoting and developing our heritage which is our language. This is a high level meeting so to say and we are here to look at the policy that should guide us in terms of the use and development of our languages. Our language is our heritage and it is something we should not throw away,” Dr. Babajide stated.
According to him, even though we speak English, French and the rest, those colonial languages don’t define us, as only our languages serve as a true reflection of who we are.
