ACALAN Meeting in Brazzaville, Congo

ACALAN organizes workshop to produce a harmonized Linguistic Atlas for Africa

The African Academy of Languages, ACALAN  a comission of Africa Union is organizing a workshop to discuss methodology and technical, support geared towards the production of a linguistic atlas of the region.

The workshop which is billed to take place between October 30 and November 1 in Abidjan, Cote D';;Ivoire will bring together cartographers and the National Bureau of Statistics of ECOWAS Member states and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

The workshop will present the opportunity to start the implementation of the recommendations of the demographers and cartographers’ workshop earlier organised by ACALAN in conjunction with ECOWAS on the linguistic Atlas for ECOWAS and SADC regions in Mali. There will also be a capacity building programme for the cartographers.

The workshop will among other things discuss data harmonization strategies; budgeting, procurement of software; appoint consultants/GIS expert; set time for collation of data and data processing.
