Used Tyres
As part of efforts to reduce importation of used commodities into the country, government of Mozambique has announced its desire to ban importation of used tyres soon.
In his speech, the country’s Prime Minister Alberto Vaquina said that Mozambique cannot be a rubbish dump for used tyres that other people no longer want.
“As a country, we cannot be the rubbish dump for used tyres. The reason they are no longer used in the countries they came from is that they’re not safe. And if they’re not safe for other countries, then they are also not safe for Mozambique,” he said.
Furthermore, Mr. Vaquina added that the government has a duty to see what can be done to inhibit factors that are clearly responsible for road accidents.
He also said that measures should be taken to improve the quality of the roads, the condition of the vehicles that uses them, and the conduct of the motorists as things that would reduce the number of traffic accidents in Mozambique.
According to CEOAFRICA.com findings, over 40 people have lost their lives in the last fortnight through road accident in Mozambique, while 50 were seriously injured.
