KANO DRY PORT
Alhaji Ahmed Rabiu, Chairman, Dala Inland Dry Port Ltd. has declared that the Kano dry port will commence operation in January 2014.
It was also gathered from the statement of Rabiu while he was speaking to the newsmen in Lagos, that the management of the dry port is waiting for the federal government to declare it a port of origin and a port of destination.
He said that the declaration would enable the foreign technical partners to move down to Nigeria and complete the remaining aspects of construction work.
Rabiu reveals that the dry port could take 20,000 containers, adding that there is room for extension as only 35 acres of land had so far been occupied out of its 200 acres, and that it would take about six months to complete the technical aspect of the dry port for full operations to commence.
He also divulged that they have just started on site, stating that they are working to ensure that the required few essential elements are fixed so that full operation will commence in six months time, adding that there is at present, a temporary arrangement to market the take-off of the dry port by January 2014.
He however, urged the Federal Government to gazette the dry port, noting that this is the main bottleneck hindering further action at the dry port.
