ACALAN -AU makes major stride in the harmonization of Betifang, Lingala and Kinkongo languages

The African Academy of Languages ( ACALAN)  which  is a specialised institution of African Union, organized workshop on the harmonization of the writing systems of the Betifang, Lingala and Kinkongo cross border languages held in Brazaville set out to harmonize the writing systems of the languages, develop guides for orthographic transcription, creating lexicon and terminologies.

At the end of the workshop, significant success was recorded in that regard, ACALAN's national structures from the countries in which the languages are spoken, representatives of the Assembly of Academicians of ACALAN from the region, representatives of the Ministries of Culture and Education of the Republic of Congo, members of Betifang, Lingala, and Kinkongo cross border languages were on hand to deliberate and arrive at various resolutions.

Some of the achievements of the workshop include: evaluation of various principles and practices of language, development of a minimum lexicon for each language, harmonization of the variations in orthographic practices among other things.
