Entries for the first Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation close in one week, at midnight on Friday 30th Mary 2014.

The competition is designed to incentivise engineers in sub-Saharan Africa to develop innovative solutions to their country's challenges.

Engineers from all disciplines have been invited to submit innovations with a Social, economic or environmental benefit. Entries must be early-stage innovations which have the potential to be scaled-up and are ready for commercialization.

The Prize was launched by the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) earlier this year. It is Africa's biggest prize devoted to engineering innovation, covering all disciplines from mechanical, civil and computing to biomedical, oil and gas, mining and electronic engineering.

It will give short-listed candidates six-month of intensive training and mentoring so they can take their engineering innovation to market, create jobs and improve life.

They will also have the opportunity to exhibit their engineering projects at an event when the overall winner, who will receive £25,000,is selected in early 2015.

The judging panel for the Africa Prize comprises high profile scientists, engineers, business executives and academics from Africa and the UK.

The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation is supported by the Shell Centenary Scholarship Fund, Consolidated Contractors Company, ConocoPhilips and the Mo Ibrahim Foundation.
