Seven people believed to be armed robbers have been killed by police in Mwanza, Tanzania early Friday.

The Mwanza Regional Police Commander, Mr Jonathan Shanna, has confirmed the incident, noting that the deaths occurred during a fierce fire exchange at Kishiri Ward in Nyamagana District.

Mr Shanna said during the incident one police officer was injured.
