Following the consultative meeting held with its working structures recently in Lome Togo, the African Academy of Languages, ACALAN have tasked its working structures in each member state to see to the establishment of language policies in their respective countries.
This was a major part of the resolutions agreed upon at the meeting. It was agreed that the working structures should carry out advocacy campaigns to prevail upon the institutions and policy makers in their respective countries to develop language policies that will promote the indigenous languages spoken in the country with the aim of ensuring that these languages become languages of instruction in the education sector, media, and other sectors of human existence.
The resolution was made as part of efforts aimed at fulfilling ACALAN's mandate of promoting African languages as a tool for fostering the integration and development of the African continent.
