The African Academy of Languages, ACALAN have held a successful workshop on the harmonization of Kinyarwanda/Kirundi, Kiswahili, Luganda, Malagasy and Somali cross-border languages.

The workshop which was held in Kampala brought together ACALAN Assembly of Academicians, national structures and focal points of the countries where the languages are spoken, the respective language commissions and other stakeholders to deliberate on ways to harmonize the various cross-border languages in question.

At the end of the workshop, ACALAN was able record considerable success in harmonizing differences in orthographic practices, develop a standardize form of writing for each of the languages, harmonize the dialectic variations and to set harmonized rules of grammar for each of the languages.
