The Kano State Government yesterday said it has commenced plans to dedicate a specific section of the rehabilitation centre earlier meant for males to rehabilitate women drug users.
The state governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, stated this Friday when the Editor-in-Chief/CEO of Media Trust Limited, Mallam Mannir Dan Ali and his team paid him a courtesy visit.
Ganduje noted that the initiative was to tackle the alarming rate of women drug users in the state.
He added that the government would commence screening of drug users so as to come up with a workable plan to assist and empower them to abandon the habit.
The governor said that drug abuse was a serious problem in the country but added that the situation in Kano is compounded because of its cosmopolitan nature.
He revealed that due to the gravity of the menace of drug abuse in the state, the government has concluded plans to embark on a retreat to support interventions by the Federal Government to checkmate the importation of illicit drugs.
