Vice chancellor of Chrisland University, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola has revealed that striving for the best has been her driving force noting that she is not one to be satisfied with just making up the number.
She made this known in an interview with CEOAfrica at the just concluded Christmas concert and carol service of the institution tagged “Government on his shoulders”, which was held yesterday at the school auditorium.
“Whatever assignment I am giving to do, I strive always to put in my best, applying the spirit of excellence, not to just make up the number but to actually stand out. I like what we call transformational leadership, so that when someone comes they can see that you have added value. I hate status quo, so that has been my policy,” she said.
Speaking on her plans for the next couple of years, Prof. Babalola said, “The last 12 months has basically been about solidifying the foundation, so we have almost passed that now although we are still doing that because we are still recruiting the necessary staff. Once I have my team complete I trust God that should be done by January next year then I start with an appropriate five year strategic plan for this institution, with retreat coupled with leadership training for the team.
“First is to design our strategic plan, then carry training to build capacity of the team those are the things I plan to do and of course we are targeting further increase, this campus is designed to take 500 students, it is my dream that in the next one year we would have filled that capacity.
“We are also looking to engage the students positively, so as not to give room to social vices. We would full time music teacher, a full time sports teacher, already we have a football pitch so the students are better engaged. We are also looking to increase the programs, we are thinking of starting the College of Basic Medical Sciences in preparation for medicine and others as well as law.”
She also hinted at partnership with other international institutions. According to her Chrisland University have already met with two institutions and plans to meet with more and formalize these partnerships.
She also expressed gratitude to God on her one year anniversary as Chrisland University Vice Chancellor.
“I am grateful to God, thankful that he kept me for one year, and not just kept me idle but I was able to do a few things, for His protection over the course of the year, I have travelled several kilometres in the past year. God gave me good health to multi-task, handle the affairs of the institution – this is a job I have never done in my life, never have I dreamt of been in this position so I am grateful for how far God has brought me, “ she added.
