Adewale Tinubu is the Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, one of Africa’s foremost indigenous integrated energy groups.
Tinubu began his career in 1992 as an attorney in his family’s law firm K.O Tinubu & Co, specialising in corporate and petroleum law assignments. Wale co-founded Ocean & Oil Group in 1994 and guided its strategic development from an oil trading and shipping company to the fully diversified and integrated Oil & Gas Company it is today. He engineered the acquisition of Unipetrol in 2000. Few years later, he led the largest ever acquisition of a quoted Nigerian company, with the acquisition of Agip Nigeria by Unipetrol through an international bid conducted by Agip Petroli International BV.
He is widely recognised for his role in the successful transformation of Oando from a petroleum marketing concern to an integrated energy group with investments across the energy value chain, and subsidiaries that are market leaders in their respective sectors.
He serves on the board of various blue-chip companies as Chairman and Director. In 2007, he was named a Global Young Leader by the World Economic Forum, Geneva, in recognition of his achievements as one of the leading executives under the age of 41. In 2010, Mr Tinubu won the Africa’s ‘Business Leader of the Year’ award on the basis of his contributions to the development of the African Oil and Gas industry. In 2011, he was awarded the ‘African Business Leader of the Year’ by Africa Investor.
