African Academy of Languages (ACALAN) ‘Operational and Planning Workshop’ on the establishment of Arabic, Sango and Isizulu Language Commissions took off today in Kigali, Rwanda.
Speaking at the opening session, the Executive Secretary of ACALAN, Dr. Lang Fafa Dampha stated that the Academy is gathered to establish the selected language commissions.
“We are here to establish the three Vehicular Cross-border Language Commissions – Arabic, Sango and Isizulu. These language commissions will come together to form working groups .These working groups will nominate a coordinator of the commission, a secretary and members.
“Members of each language will make a presentation of the situation of that language in relation to other languages in that country,” he said.
Dr. Dampha further noted that priority areas in the development of the languages will be identified for community development and for Africa integration and development.
