Top African philosopher, Professor Sophie Oluwole is dead.

Her death was confirmed by Professor Muyiwa Falaiye of the University of Lagos. He revealed that Oluwole died around 8pm on Sunday evening after a protracted illness.

According to Wikipedia, Sophie Oluwole, also known as Mamalawo  was born in year 1936.

Oluwole is the first female doctorate degree holder in philosophy in Nigeria.

She is a practitioner of Yoruba philosophy, a way of thinking which stems from the ethnic group based in Nigeria.

She is vocal about the role of women in philosophy, and the disproportionate representation of African thinkers in education.

The Ondo born Philosopher died at the age of 83.
